A Bill of Materials or Component list can be defined against a product using the Bill of Material step. However, you must first specify the against the product that a Bill of Materials is required. This is done on the 'Properties' step of the Product wizard:
This Radio button will give different options depending on the Product Group specified as the Stock Control group on the first step of the Product Wizard.
Where the Stock Control group has been set as a Kit Type BOM or as any Non Stock Controlled Product Group, this Radio Button will give the option for 'Product Uses Components in a Kit Form'. This should be used where the top level product does not physically exist and where the components are simply picked as any other product would be when an order has been received for the top level Kit Item.
Where the Stock Control Group has been as an 'Assembly BOM' or as any Stock Controlled Group, this Radio Button will give the option for 'Product Uses Components in an Assembled Form'. This should be used where the top level product requires some degree of manufacture before it can be listed for sale. I.e. where the components are delivered by the supplier but these are then put together or assembled in order to increase stock of the completed item.
Once this Radio Button has been set, the Bill of Materials step will become available:
To add components, simply search for the relevant product, specify a quantity and click the 'ADD COMPONENT' button.
To remove a component, just click on the component and you'll see a 'REMOVE COMPONENT' button. Likewise, you'll also see an 'UPDATE COMPONENT' button if you just wish to change the quantity.
